How many weapons can you carry in GTA 6?
Flow Games’ interview with Rob Nelson reports two short weapons and two long weapons carried by the characters, with weapons and equipment stored in the personal vehicle’s trunk.
Source and scope: Flow Games, August 27, 2026 (Portuguese). Pre-release reporting. We have not tested the final game and do not apply these campaign details to GTA Online.
For planning, keep three ideas separate: owning an item, being able to access it and selecting it for an activity. This is our decision framework, not a description of an inventory screen we have tested.
Make the loadout fit your session.
Choose your next activity.
Exploring a district, continuing the campaign and investigating an opportunity call for different preparation. Start with what you want to do, then read the conditions the game presents. You do not need to make a purchase before every outing.
Check what is available now.
At launch, distinguish items you own from items you can currently access. Check the interface before relying on a piece of equipment. Note where you are and which character you control.
Give each purchase a reason.
Personal preference is a good reason to spend, but it is not evidence of a financial return. For a progression purchase, first identify the obstacle it solves. Keep a note of the price and the result you actually observe.
These principles establish neither an optimal buying order nor a minimum price. To put a purchase into the context of your progression, read our GTA 6 money guide.
Your launch-day inventory checks.
Before sharing a tip, note the mode, version and starting situation. The following questions are checks to make, not additional announced features.
| Situation | Question to check | How to record it |
|---|---|---|
| Available items | What does the interface offer on foot, then near the vehicle? | Record the difference without assuming everything owned is always accessible. |
| Changing the selection | Does adding an item require a swap or another action? | Record the action and result; do not generalise across every item category. |
| Switching characters | Does the selection or access change after the transition? | Compare the same items before and after, without assuming a shared inventory. |
| Interruption or reload | What does the inventory show after this specific event? | Keep different events separate; one case does not establish a universal rule. |
A screenshot can show an inventory state; it cannot establish a retention or loss rule on its own. For a comparison, keep the previous state and the event that happened between the two.
The answers we will not invent.
What is the best starting weapon?
We do not have a tested ranking. A useful recommendation needs availability, any purchase cost, the intended activity and the alternatives compared. A popular name is not enough.
Can you dual-wield handguns?
Being able to carry multiple items does not establish simultaneous use. The source cited here does not settle this question.
What are the ammo limits and item-loss rules?
This guide establishes neither ammunition caps nor complete storage or item-loss rules. We do not copy them from another GTA: each case needs a source or an observation in the relevant game.
